At SJMIS Elementary, Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) guide the holistic educational program. Students are nurtured to develop as Responsible Global Citizens through educational activities that foster multiculturalism, environmental conservation and community outreach. These themes are integrated into the curriculum and students make meaning from concepts and skills taught.

Students are steered towards becoming High Academic Achievers and Effective Communicators as they explore English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies through student-centered activities. With the support of technology, research, investigatory projects, oral presentations, games and portfolios are common strategies used in our elementary classrooms. Students also learn through cooperative learning activities that build students’ social development to become Emerging Leaders.

Grade Levels and Offered Services

The elementary school compromises of students from grades 1 to 6. The student body is represented by over ten countries and cultures. Class sizes are limited to 25 students per class.

The English Language Development (ELD) Program is an integrated part of the SJMIS Elementary Reading Program. Students who are beginner English language learners or have learning difficulties are taught English foundational skills in a small-sized group setting during the Reading periods and pullouts. The aim of the Elementary ELD Program is to enhance students’ ability to achieve grade-level English skills. Bringing our lowest-performing students up in proficiency and narrowing the gap between the bottom and top performers takes consistency, motivation, and collaboration between the school and the families.

Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is designed to support learners with special needs. Those students who are part of the IEP learn with the homeroom and specialist teachers if needed with the guidance of a shadow teacher. All teachers collaborate together in supporting the learner to achieve specific learning goals.

The recently updated elementary music curriculum is based on an age-appropriate instrumental program. Music education helps prepare young people to think creatively, learn how to work collaboratively, and to become disciplined, critical thinkers and problem solvers. Research shows that children who receive a comprehensive, sequential music education taught by exceptional music educators do better in overall school achievement, social development, success in society, and earning potential.

The After-School Program (ASP) offers academic tutoring as well as extra-curricular activities such as swimming, golf, badminton, football/soccer, Thai box, table tennis, Zumba, theater, arts, DIY, violin, Thai dance, and Mandarin.
